How I actually find Y2K pieces on resale

· 1 min

People assume there is a shop. There is no shop. There is a saved search that has been running for eight months and a lot of patience.

Search the way sellers type, not the way buyers do

Most good listings are written badly. Somebody clearing a wardrobe does not know the brand or the era, so they type something generic, and the algorithm buries it under people who know exactly what they have.

I keep searches running on misspellings, vague descriptors, and brand names with the spacing wrong. That is where the underpriced things sit.

Two blurry photos is a good sign

A listing with studio lighting and correct terminology is priced accordingly. A listing photographed on a bed at night usually is not.

I have never once regretted asking for more photos. Sellers almost always send them.

Decide your size rules before you start

Vintage sizing is fiction and reproduction sizing is a different fiction. Measurements or nothing: ask for the flat waist and the inseam, and compare against something you already own that fits.

None of this is fast. It is consistent, and consistent beats lucky over a year.

The rest of the closet, and everything else, is on my page.
